Design formats
Pick, copy, design and change the formats posts are made with.
A design format is a finished slide design with text and image slots. Pick one from your formats or ReelFarm's library, or describe a new one.
list_design_formats
List your design formats and ReelFarm's library, or get one format in full with its slots and word limits.
Parameters
format_idstringGet one design format in full: its slide types, slots (word limits, image slots and default images), aspect ratios and preview images. Leave out to list all.
show_formats
Show the user their formats, or one format and its latest slideshow, in ReelFarm's format view.
Parameters
formatstringOne format to show, by id or name as the user said it (e.g. "doomscrolling app showcase"): shows its latest slideshow. Leave out to show all formats.
create_design_format
Design a new format from a description, or copy an Instagram or TikTok post's look with source_url.
- Takes about 1–2 minutes.
- At most 3 slide types per call. Add more with update_design_format, 2 at a time.
- A design that fails doesn't use a copy.
Parameters
descriptionstringrequiredThe design, in words, as an art director would brief a designer: every slide type (the hook, the body slides, a closing slide if any) and on each, where the photo goes and how much of the slide it fills; every piece of text, its role, position, size relative to the slide, font style (e.g. "bold condensed sans, all caps", "elegant serif italic", "TikTok's own font"), color, outline or box behind it, and alignment; and overlays, gradients, frames, device mockups, icons, stickers, numbers or dividers. Be specific and measurable ("headline in the top third, about 8% of the slide tall, white with a thick black outline, centered"). When copying a post, describe what you saw in social_post slide by slide and also pass source_url.
slide_typesstring[]requiredEvery slide type this format has, at most 3, e.g. ["hook", "body", "closing"] (hook and body are always included). One design request can't build more in time; add other layouts afterwards with update_design_format, 2 at a time. More than 3 is refused right away with TOO_MANY_SLIDE_TYPES, before any work or charge.
source_urlstringAn Instagram carousel or TikTok photo slideshow whose look to match. ReelFarm's designer looks at its first slides. Use it when copying a post.

Change a format's look by describing the changes in words. ReelFarm's designer rebuilds it and returns new previews.
- A library format you don't own is saved as your own edited copy, with a new id.

changesstringWhat to change in the design, in words, specifically and measurably: e.g. "Put each body slide's screenshot inside an iPhone frame, centered, about 70% of the slide tall", "Make the body slides square", "Hook text 20% bigger and moved to the top third", "Caption color #FFE14D with a soft black shadow". When fixing a copy, list each difference you see between its previews and the original slides and how to fix it. Everything not mentioned stays the same.
new_slide_typesstring[]Required with changes: the slide types this change adds, at most 2, e.g. ["venn", "comparison"], or [] when it only restyles existing ones. To add more, make one call per 2. More than 2 is refused right away with TOO_MANY_SLIDE_TYPES, before any work or charge.
